Categories of Goals (priority order)
- team philosophy
- rather than trying to give lots of students in the area an frc experience, we care about giving the best experience possible to a limited set of students
- we want to create a culture where students care about robotics without outside incentives to be active and contribute
- we care about competition and being competitive while maintaining a positive experience
- We don’t want students to make severe sacrifices to be more competitive
- All-nighters for robot, ruining grades/health, doing not ethical things at comp, violating spirit of first etc.
- we want to be improve consistently in all aspects
- We want to continue our culture of being student-led
- Still want mentors involved in our team, but not directly building robot
- More mentors are still helpful in structuring our team and helping with sustainability
- One of our team’s defining characteristics based on past experience
- technical season goals (tech leads make a list beforehand)
- non-tech season goals (non-tech leads make a list beforehand)
Too Late Before Season
- short term team goals (1-2 yrs)
- Where do want to be in 1-2 years (in all aspects) and what do we need to do to get there
- longer term team goals
- sustainability
- Try to recruit a more diverse set of students
- Though we should accept everybody who generally applies
- Next offseason goal
- Continue working on fixing history of only having one demographic (Asian/Indian men) (have pretty good progress so far but can be better)
- Tradeoff robot performance for more diverse leadership? - post season conversation
Tech Season Goals
Mechanical + Overall
- Successfully implement and use documentation that we developed over offseason (part tracker, build flow, engineering notebook)
- Quality Control checklist is adhered and applied to all parts of the robot
- Every bolt on the robot has retention (Loctite, retention)
- All metal is deburred and cleaned
- Motor mounting accounts for wires
- Robot is functioning to its full capacity every match
- There should be confidence in the robot prior to every event
- One of 2 chassis should be operational at all times
- Schedule is the greatest priority for season and we will scope down functionality to hit our deadlines
- Have better comp execution than 2022 offseason (elaborate later)
Drive practice
- 4 hours of competition robot being consistently run per week before first event
- includes time for prog fixes found through testing
- Driver spends 4 hours driving a chassis each week before first event
